Frequently asked questions

What is index.wine?

index.wine is a new wine sales platform for wine professionals in Europe. Spain's most interesting old-school, small batch, artisanal wine producers offer limited allotments of their wines on the platform.

We negotiate quotas with each individual winery and make them available exclusively through the wineries' dedicated profile page on index.wine. The wine is then easily bought on the platform from only a few cases duty paid for commercial use and shipped directly from the winery to the door of your business. No warehouses, intermediaries or cumbersome export/import paperwork.

How do I buy wine on index.wine?

Exclusively through our mailing list.  We send periodical emails with new available wines shipping to your country. If your business' VAT number is registered on the European VIES system or on the UK's HMRC services, VAT rules are automatically applied and VAT is exempted from the sale.

We currently ship duty paid with all necessary paperwork ready for commercial use to France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Keep in mind that not all of our wineries ship to all countries. On the bottom of each winery's profile you'll find the list of countries.

Is there a minimum purchase?

Yes. We require a minimum purchase. Each individual shipment requires specific tax paperwork that we take care of. This obliges us to set a minimum order per shipment.

Is VAT exempt from all sales?

If your business's national VAT number is registered on the European VIES system or the United Kingdom's HMRC services, yes. If it's not, you can still purchase from index.wine with Spain's 21% VAT applied.

How can I find out about new wine allocations and wineries on index.wine?
Exclusively through our mailing list. We send new wine availabilities and new winery incorporations to the platform only through our mailing list.
I am a professional, can I buy the wine for commercial use?
Yes. That's the whole friction point index.wine set out to resolve. Allowing for small, artisanal wineries to sell friction-free directly to wine professionals in Europe. All shipments arrive in the destination country duty-paid with all the necessary paperwork to resell the wine locally.
I don't have an import registration number, am I responsible for any customs paperwork?
No. No importer registration number is needed to buy on index.wine. We handle all paperwork and declare alcohol taxes to your local tax authority in accordance to your countries' alcohol laws.
How does our pricing work?
We negotiate wine allocations with each individual winery. We sell in the price range of a traditional wine distributor but without massive minimum orders. All of our prices include all import and paperwork fees. Depending on each countries' alcohol and import laws the price of the wine varies slightly from one country to another.
How does shipping work?
We ship via UPS Ground with a special negotiated rate. Unlike conventional online stores we don't do tricky schemes to hide transportation costs. We rather be transparent and reflect the real cost of shipping for each specific order.
And also unlike most online stores, we don't offer next day deliveries, express shipments or last-minute anythings. Since all shipments are made directly from each winery, we work with a fixed schedule to allow the winery to concentrate on the winemaking and reduce the amount of time spent on logistics. The upcoming shipping period for each individual winery can be found at the bottom of their profile.
Normally all orders ship within 30 days of being placed and arrive within two or three days depending on the destination. We do not ship during the summer months (June, July and August). Orders placed during these months are shipped in September, weather permitting.
